When less is more
26/06/2007 by Lee.
Why are things that have “no additives” or made from “pure” something or other more expensive than things stuffed with additives? Surely more ingredients mean more cost, ergo higher prices. But no, if there is less in something then it costs more.
Whilst I am by no means a shining example of healthy living and eating I can’t help but feel that there is little encouragement to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Want to buy a freshly squeezed juice? Don’t expect much change from £1.50, try and buy a nice cold full fat coke though, and that can be yours for around 60p. The fruit juice contains just one ingredient, hence the name, whilst the Coke contains a plethora of additives and other goodies, not to mention the nice shiny can that it comes in. In the restaurant at work, I can get a bacon roll and a can of coke for less then £2. Portion of chips? That’s just 60p. Nice healthy baked potato? They start from £2.50 before you put anything in it! The chips are made from the self same potatoes yet are less than 25% of the price. If salad is more your thing, again it’ll cost you a couple of pounds.
So I’m off now to get a bacon roll for breakfast, it’s not healthy, but I can’t afford to be.
